Free agency signing across the league continues to stall, as the lockout lumbers on. And while some moves are highly discussed, some slip the radar. Freddie Freeman seems to be one of them. Freddie is a free agent this off-season and is looking for a team to secure his services.

Undoubtedly, Freeman was a key part of the World Series Champions roster. And while the lockout has restricted the nature of talks between player and team temporarily, the Braves could well be looking at re-signing the first baseman to play at Truist Park.

Freddie Freeman – Possible Moves

The 1st baseman being out of contract could be great news for franchises across the MLB. With many having a gap at first base and some even needing some beefing for their hitting line-up, Freeman could well be an ideal signing.

The Yankees and Dodgers seem to be the top potential destinations for Freeman.

We could see the Dodgers make the strongest bid for his services, considering the fit. The 2022 season could see new Designated Hitter rules under the new CBA. This could mean that the Dodgers move Max Muncy to be their DH, leaving 1st base open for Freeman to occupy.

The Dodgers’ offense too is lacking after the departure of Seager. Freeman’s offensive contribution is not to be ignored and could well make the Dodgers whole again.

Freddie and the Atlanta Braves

Freeman was the MVP of the Atlanta Braves in 2021 and it seems unlikely that he will leave Truist Park. There could only be a few reasons that the Braves may not yet have discussed his contract. Apart from the lockout, it could well be that they still are waiting on the clarity from the CBA agreement.

Freeman has fast become the face of the Braves. He is one of the most popular players on the team, with a loyal fan base and a stellar record. The National League MVP, only moments after snagging the last out in the World Series win, showed the winning ball to owner Terry McGuirk. The Chairman of the franchise embraced the emotional Freeman.

It would seem that for the fanbase, letting Freeman walk away this off-season would seem indefensible. And while the Braves may yet agree to an extension with Freddie, the Dodger faithful will be hoping that no agreement is reached.
