The New York Yankees may seem like a building franchise to their fans, but their manager Aaron Boone seems to think differently. With the MLB off-season resuming after the lockout, Aaron Boone has gone as far to say that despite a lack of any key superstar signings the Yankees could even compete and possibly win with the squad that they have right now. The New York Yankees had an underwhelming season in 2021. With a Wild Card Game exit to arch-rivals the Boston Red Sox, the Yankees will likely be looking to mount a title challenge come 2022. Or so at least the fans would have expected. The New York Yankees front office though seems to be headed in a different direction. Despite making some moves in a shortened window. The Yankees are yet to break the bank, and Boone doesn’t seem to be particularly troubled.

Aaron Boone opens up about Yankees’ roster

The New York Yankees have had a fair bit of transfer activity after the resumption of the window, but the fans will surely have been expecting more. And yet it seems like Aaron Boone is satisfied with the roster that the Yankees have at the moment. Journalist Bryan Hoch spoke about this in a bit more detail while covering Aaron Boone’s reaction.

The Yankees’ newest strategy seems to revolve around holding out for just the right deal before pouncing on any opportunity that presents itself; but with no “opportunity” had knocked on the door since the resumption of the off-season, fans will be getting antsy.

With several key parts of the roster seemingly rife for upgrade and free agents available, the lack of action seems to be hurting the fans. Some key moves for the Yankees could include an extension for Aaron Judge, who runs out his contract in 2023; the first baseman in either Freddie Freeman or Matt Olson to replace Luke Voit; or even signing a high caliber shortstop for 2022.

However, the message from the front office seems clear. They are happy with the players they have put together. And in terms of expectations from that set of players, they remain to go out there and win. Especially donning the pinstripes, fan expectations in 2022 will be high. But what do you think?
