The MLB may be in lockout, but the stories continue to develop. Fans left to their own devices will make anything up, but experts left to deliberate may actually chance upon something more concrete. And Ken Rosenthal has opined in the Athletic about something very similar. While the post lockout conversation has been dominated by talks of Carlos Correa, a sleeper free agent might be primed for a switch too. The Braves may no longer have their MVP, Freddie Freeman next season.

While the current situation is only based in whispers, when Ken Rosenthal steps up to acknowledge it; it’s real. The Freddie Freeman free agency may not be a hot bed of activity just yet. But it could potentially stand to become a franchise altering transfer. Freeman has known no home other than Atlanta in the NL, but could well leave for pastures anew in free agency.

Freeman led the Braves to a World Series title in 2021, winning NL MVP along the way; and yet Freeman’s time in Truist Park could be at an end. All for a switch to the Yankee stadium and a season sporting the pinstripes.

Freddie Freeman – headed to the New York Yankees?

Freddie Freeman is aged 32 and a free agent this off-season. The first baseman has been with the Braves ever since 2007 when he was drafted by the franchise. He made his debut in 2010 subsequently and has been a key part of the roster for the Braves ever since.

However, their relationship seems to have seen certain hiccups. With the Braves allowing his contract to run out without renewal despite talks conducted last spring, last summer and even in November. Freeman seems to be a free agent for now and could consider a littany of moves that would guarantee him a better contract than the Braves will be looking to give him.

The New York Yankees could potentially swoop in and capture the first baseman. While Luke Voit currently occupies that spot in the roster, Freeman would definitely be an upgrade. And with the Yankees looking to build a team for right now, the addition of an MVP couldn’t hurt. However, the contract will need to be lucrative to lure Freeman away from his current spot.

He has on multiple occasions indicated his intentions to re-sign with the Braves; but protracting these talks may just have backfired. With several suitors emerging once the lockout is lifted; Freeman could just as well be headed to another team.

In the words of Rosenthal, “Once baseball business resumes, no one should be surprised if this saga takes an abrupt turn.”
