Carlos Correa is the shortstop for all things 2022. With the recent hire of Scott Boras as his agent, Correa seems primed for a big-money contract this off-season. Having said that, there’s probably a reason that Correa hired Boras as his agent. With Boras being in-charge of several high-profile contracts in MLB, his clients always walk away happy.

When asked the reason for the switch, Boras was quick to respond that it was simply to make sure that Correa was well represented. The Boras Corporation offered the necessary expertise and experience required to negotiate tough deals; both qualities that Correa will probably need if he is to sign on with any of the top prospects.

Carlos Correa – new contract valuation?

Boras, in an interview, said that Correa would likely have a high valued contract. Apart from his obvious performances over the past season, Boras spoke about how it is not just about that. Harkening to his World Series win with the Astros in 2017, Boras mentioned, “He’s got a resume. A ring.”

Speaking candidly, Boras mentioned, “He has all the elements that create what we have normally seen as valuations at the top. At the Everest, of what contracts should be.” Because of his high performance, Correa seems to have placed himself in the best possible stance for a mega-contract this off-season.

Boras breaks silence on Correa’s contract

Scott Boras recently spoke to a reporter regarding the recent developments. Specifically addressing the questions that some may still harbor regarding Correa’s contract value and how past negotiations may have affected it.

Boras also recently acted on the Corey Seager contract for his deal with the Texas Rangers. With the confirmed value of $325 million over 10 years for the shortstop, it could well set a benchmark for Correa. The reporter asked Boras if the Seager deal changes anything about the Correa contract.

However, Boras was quick to dismiss any such questions. Said Boras, “I think for every team and every player, they’re gonna look externally and make judgements about what they want.” Setting out that the nature of a player valuation may be different to teams across the league. And how to some teams a player may be more valuable than others.

Directing his attention more directly at Correa, Boras had some thoughts too. Said Boras, “Carlos reaches the top in offensive & defensive metrics.” And with the 2021 that Correa has had, not too many would be questioning that statement.

Correa notched up an impressive 92 RBIs and 26 home runs with an ultra-impressive .851 OPS. And defensively, he was a wall at shortstop. He won a Rawlings Platinum Glove in the American League. The award is given to the best fielder in the league, irrespective of their position.

Add to that, Correa also collected his first Golden Glove in 2021 and stacked up with 21 defensive runs saved. Just to shed some context, this was the most in MLB among shortstops and seven more than runner-up Andrelton Simmons.

And in truth, while several prospects have emerged to sign Carlos Correa, the question remains as to who his signing successor will be?
