The ongoing lockout continues to cause havoc in the world of baseball. Even after three months of work stoppage, the owners and players haven’t found a deal for the new collective bargaining agreement. And if the two parties do not find a solution at the earliest, then among many, the New York Mets star, Pete Alonso, might get into some serious trouble.

Notably, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred on Tuesday canceled a few regular-season games after the players’ union didn’t accept the owners’ proposal for the CBA. The financial fight between the owners and players has been going on for over three months now.

After losing the league games, not only the owners, but the players will also bear huge losses. However, when it comes down to the New York Mets star, Pete Alonso, then he might lose millions because of the lockout.

New York Mets star Pete Alonso to lose millions if the lockout extends beyond 15 days

Pete Alonso is one of the brightest stars in Major League Baseball. And in the coming times, he will be one of the best players in the league; however, his current situation at the Mets might be in danger.

During the 2019 season, when the Mets included their rookie, Pete Alonso, on the Opening Day roster, that decision surprised everyone. At that time, it looked like the Mets will lose a year of control over their star player; Because most of the teams choose to manipulate the service time of the players. Had the Mets kept Alonso in the minor leagues until mid-April, they wouldn’t have lost a year of the contract with him.

In that scenario, Alonso’s contract with the Mets would have ended after the 2025 season, not 2024. But the Mets’ management chose to play Alonso on the opening day and sacrifice a year of control over the player.

But seems like Pete Alonso will not be free after the 2024 season but in 2025. According to Andy Marino of SNY TV, if the lockout extends beyond 15 days of the regular season, then Alonso will lose his service time. And once again, his free agency will be pushed back to the 2025 season. With this, the Mets star could lose millions of dollars because of that one extra year of his contract with the Mets.
