The New York Mets seem to have put together a pitcher rotation that will likely scare any batters making their way to home plate. With a 1-2 punch of two Cy Young winners in Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer, they look set to dominate lineups across the Major League. And a key portion of that 1-2 punch seems to know just how dominant he is. With his New York Mets teammate, Trevor May speaking on a podcast, we heard about deGrom’s thoughts too.

The New York Mets are putting together a roster to contend for the World Series. And they are making no qualms about it. Having added to their offensive capabilities with Lindor in their lineup; their mound rotation too had a serious upgrade this season. With the signing of Max Scherzer, the New York Mets really seem to have taken a step forward, but deGrom had plenty of confidence to go around even before this ever came to pass.

Trevor May opens up about Jacob deGrom

Harkening back to last season, May opened up about a time when early in the game DeGrom was watching the action develop from the bullpen.

“Jake’s just sitting there like inside with his trainer”, recalls May, “just watching the game with the commentators doing the commentary.”

And as he delves into more detail, it seems as though you can sense where the conversation is going. Says May, “They were discussing, ‘Is he the best pitcher?’ and one of the guys was like, It’s not even close.”

The commentators too were quite open with their praise recalls May.

“He’s just incredible and I anticipate him being the best ever,” they said as the Mets players were all in the bullpen.

As all teammates would do May and all those there seemed to roll their eyes and look at DeGrom; to which he seemed to have the perfect reaction. Speaking to the podcast, May just looks to the camera and mirroring DeGrom in that situation just shrugs as if to say, ‘you know they’re right’.

May laughs it off, however, and continues with his story, “And that was the first time I lost it. It was hilarious.”

Recalling the situation May fondly remembers DeGrom’s reaction from the season past; mainly because this was the first time that he saw DeGrom address it. May shrugs again as if to remember the exact motion; “He’s not wrong.”
