

New York Mets are one such team that benefitted most from the free agency. They made some notable signings for their 2022 roster. However, the Mets lost their starting pitcher, Jacob deGrom, even before the start of the season.

Notably, even after the signing of veteran pitcher Max Scherzer, the Mets manager had named deGrom to start the opening day game against the Washington Nationals. But because of his shoulder injury, deGrom will miss at least 1 to 2 months of league games.
However, the Mets manager Buck Showalter has named the starting pitcher for the opening day game. And for those who are wondering, it’s not Max Scherzer.
Tylor Megill to start for the New York Mets on opening day
After losing deGrom to injury, in the name of Max Scherzer, the Mets did have an option for the starting pitcher for the opening day. But Scherzer also is struggling with his hamstring injury.

From having one of the best pitching options in the league, just in a week, the Mets ended up losing their both starting pitchers at the most crucial time. However, the Mets manager, Showalter, has named Tylor Megill to start on opening day.
But Megill is elated to be the starting pitcher on the opening day game against the Nationals. Talking to SNY TV, Megill said that he is ready to go. “I’m excited, it’s going to be fun. I’m ready to go,” said Tylor Megill.

The 26-year-old pitcher made his MLB debut in the 2021 season for the New York Mets. And debutant struck out 99 batters while playing for the Mets in the 2021 season. However, this time Megill will have a bigger role to play for the Mets. In the absence of deGrom, he has a fine opportunity to utilize his place on the roster.

However, as reported by MLB.com, Max Scherzer will be back for the Mets in the 2nd game, which is against the Washington Nationals.
