The lockout in Major League Baseball is has been in place for almost 2 months now. And the owners and players are yet to agree on the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. Notably, if the two parties do not agree to the new agreement as soon as possible, then the schedule of the 2022 season will be delayed. However, if reports are true, then the MLB owners are likely to offer their counterproposal this week.
In the past week itself, there have been lots of activities in Major League Baseball regarding the new CBA deal. The players’ association declined the owners’ request to include a mediator for any further negotiation. They do not want to delay the process and get the new CBA deal as soon as possible so that the league games will not be hampered.

MLB is planning to make a new proposal following the owners meeting which ends tomorrow. It is expected to involve core economic issues, and hope remains that it could trigger something to get a deal done on time for the regular season to begin as scheduled, or close.

According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, currently, the owners are planning to make a new proposal. Which involves core economic issues of the league. And if everything goes the right way, then the MLB owners and the players’ association will be meeting on Saturday.
With MLB ready to submit a counter proposal on Saturday, the core question is whether there’s any meat to it. The players have submitted back adjustments on core concepts (eg agreed to expanded playoffs but offering 12, not 14 teams). If it’s making a proposal just to make one 🤷🏻♂️

The Saturday meeting will be the first meeting in the last 11 days between the two parties. Baseball fans will be hoping that this time both the owners and players get the deal done so that the season can start on schedule.

But before all of this, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred is expected to address the media on Thursday. Manfred is likely to announce the delay in spring training of the 2022 season.
