With the MLB Lockout still ongoing, fans are yet to taste any live baseball. In the meantime, though, some outrageous plays on the diamond have not eluded fans of the sport. In a freak base-running incident, a college softball game saw perhaps one of the most daring escapes to secure the base. And while unlikely to translate into any major league performances soon for Alexandria Whitmore, it was still made for impressive viewing.

The softball game between Kent State and Drake University saw some fortuitous events. Among them was a missed pitch from the mound being converted to a home run. In the 5 innings of the game, with a runner on third, the pitcher miscued her attempt for the catcher to miss on the first attempt.

Alexandria Whitmore sure made Drake University pay a hefty price for the miscued catch. The home run too came at the cost of some serious acrobatics from the athlete.

The runner on third base was only to ready to make her attempt when the pitcher miscued her throw. Already halfway to home plate by the time that the catcher managed to gather the ball; the runner avoided being tagged in what can be described best as an acrobatic attempt at keeping away.

The #8 runner for Kent State, Alexandria Whitmore, sold a head fake to the catcher. Videos of the moment make it seem as though in her attempt to tag the runner, the Catcher for Drake University falls over. Proceeding to home plate, Whitmore was proclaimed safe, and she exclaimed with the joy only a successful home run can bring.

High fiving her teammates around her and being mobbed eventually, she undoubtedly seemed to score the moment of the match. Scoring at the bottom of the fifth to bring the score to 11-0 in favor of her home university, Whitmore concluded the rout on a winning note.

Drake University remained scoreless across the game and failed to register themselves over the duration of the match-up. Only notching up a singular hit in the encounter, Kent State was clearly the dominant side. Whitmore, though, remained the star of the encounter.

Courtesy of her nimble footwork, she not only escaped the tag from the catcher; but also ensured the momentum stayed with Kent University throughout the entire match.
