The MLB lockout has definitely extended beyond any fan’s expectations. If most of us cast out minds back to December 2021, when we were staring at Commissioner Rob Manfred just initiated the lockout, it was unlikely too many of us would have seen a scenario in which games had to be canceled. And yet that is where we stand today. And even players like Bo Bichette from the Toronto Blue Jays have expressed how sorry they are.

With MLB’s imposed February 28 deadline passing, it meant games would be canceled. As such, the Toronto Blue Jays are slated to miss their opening series. Specifically those with the Baltimore Orioles and the Tampa Bay Rays as a part of the canceled schedule. And while no match-up that was a big eyeball drawer has been lost on the Blue Jays yet, Bichette was still sad for the fans.

Bo Bichette expresses sadness for lost games

In a recent article by SportsNet, Bichette went as far as to say that the entire baseball industry owes the fans an apology for its current labor woes. Speaking about a weird synergy that has now come to pass, Bichette opened up a bit about the parties at the table right now. Said Bichette, “The bottom line is as players we need owners and owners need players. But we both need fans. That’s the most disappointing part of it all.”

He however expressed that the player will be needing to stick to their guns over the course of the ongoing negotiations. “I think we owe an apology to people who are wanting to watch our game. But I think as a union, we have to do what’s right for ourselves this moment,” he added.

The lockout though seems to be just as saddening for the players as it is for the fans of the league. With the league canceling all teams’ first 2 series because of the lengthened negotiations. It seems as though the players too are itching to get back into action.

And Bichette is no different. Speaking about the extended lockout and the effect that it may be having, Bichette appeared to be quite crestfallen. “It’s disappointing, it’s frustrating. But it is what it is.” he said, “It’s just disappointing with the talent that’s in the game right now that fans are getting deprived of that.”

However, with the negotiations garnering some pace last week, it seemed as though the two parties are definitely willing to work it out between them. And as silent spectators, it seems all that we can do at the moment is wait and watch. Said Bichette, “The hope is we get on the field as soon as we can.”
