The MLB off-season seems to elude us just about as much as anything else with the ever extending lockout. But according to reports, it appears that the New York Yankees may be well positioned to take advantage of the off-season the second it resumes. With their pursuit of several free agents well documented, it appears they have already conducted several medicals to streamline the signing process when the window resumes. Among the conducted medicals? Superstar shortstop Carlos Correa.

The New York Yankees appear to be building for the season ahead with gusto. Having exited the post-season in a wild card loss to their arch-rivals the Boston Red Sox in 2021 obviously just doesn’t sit right with the Bronx Bombers. But their pursuit of free agents has put them right back in the news. The pinstripes look set to add to their roster in 2022; but who will they look to sign?

Jon Heyman reports on Yankees’ interest

Jon Heyman has recently taken to Twitter to speak about how the New York Yankees had a few completed medicals before the lockout even began. These included star acquisitions if they were to be completed in the shape of Carlos Correa, Carlos Rodon and Yusei Kikuchi. However, the real reason the Yankees may have undertaken the medicals could be two fold.

Apart from their interest in acquiring the players, Heyman reports that the second signing window could be ‘frenzied’; and in a scenario where they have to act quickly, perhaps having completed medicals might just put them over the line.

Reportedly, Heyman stated that the Yankees are after two main positions to reinforce their team sheet. And while they are in the market for both shortstop as well as a starting pitcher; it seems as though their shortstop prospects will hold them in good stead.

With the emergence of both Anthony Volpe as well as Oswaldo Peraza; the depth for shortstop is only bound to take a step up as time goes on. But with the signing of Carlos Correa on the cards too; it will really be interesting to see who occupies the spot come Opening Day.

But with so much in free agency still indeterminate what do you think? Will the New York Yankees go for a long term signing in Carlos Correa or will they look to promote from their farm system and sign a pitcher instead?
