Every year, the MLB turns out a sea of talent. With an ongoing and ever-ready sea of talent ready to ascend into the playing circuit, there is considerable hype built around these college athletes. And as with every year, there are a few that stand out. For 2022, that class of players is topped by Druw Jones of Wesleyan University. And the talent is clear for everyone to see, including some ESPN sportscasters.

After making waves with a superb display of his hitting ability on Twitter, Druw seems to have slingshot himself into notice from the scouts too. The combination of his composure and hitting ability seems to have made him a great pickup for any MLB franchise. And he is being noticed by all the right people. ESPN’s MLB Insider, Kiley McDaniel, too seems to rate the player quite highly, comparing him to MLB superstar Bryce Harper.

Druw Jones compared to Bryce Harper

Ever since the commercialization of the sport, baseball is awaiting a superstar athlete; One who builds hype through college and pays off even through his major league career. So far, the only athlete that has come close seems to be Bryce Harper. But the media machine demands more and Druw Jones, reportedly, could be the answer.

With the college youngster reported to star the charts at 6 ft. 4 in. and 180 pounds, he is bound to make an impact. Throwing and hitting right-handed, Jones seems to show tremendous potential both offensively and defensively. With McDaniel rating a lot of Jones’ aspects as either a plus plus or a plus attribute, surely some time in the league will only help his progress as time goes on.

Another perhaps slightly underrated aspect of his game could be the mentality. Jones has shown some solid nerve under pressure. Being the son of an MLB legend is one thing, but picking to play the game with that baggage is another, and managing to dominate amid tremendous public scrutiny is even more creditable at that.

And Druw Jones seemed to do just that. Amid chants of ‘overrated’ while at home plate, Jones absolutely dispatched a pitch to deep center field for a mammoth home run. And rounding the bases in style, he took the home plate with a signature shush to the crowd.
