The Houston Astros are a champion franchise. And with their recent world series record, not many will be able to dispute that. The Astros went all the way in 2017, only failing at the final hurdle in 2021. They lost to Atlanta in the final series of the season. But as with all champion sides, they will be looking to the future in an effort to continue the run. And a large part of that is recruitment. Having signed Carlos Correa’s younger brother JC Correa up too, it seems they are gearing up long-term as well.

While commonplace that a few prospects are picked up owing to their connections with existing stars. JC Correa seems to be one to buck that trend. In a recent interview, he has revealed that his recruitment has been the basis of his performances. And he genuinely believes in the franchise to make a difference for them going forward.

JC Correa speaks out

Recently making a switch to the catcher position, JC seems to be in a good place with the Houston Astros. The team drafted him twice as a second-rounder. And have shown some faith in his development once in the city.

Responding to people commenting about how JC got drafted with the Astros. He mentions that the chatter is hard to ignore, Correa Said, “A lot of people have told me that, but I was not signed because Carlos was here or anything like that.”

Not responding to public opinion in the least, Correa did not seem too affected. “People can say whatever they want, but I know myself, and the people around me know the talent I have,” he added.

Correa – The Minor Leaguer

The catcher has developed into an interesting prospect with the Astros. JC was first drafted as a 33rd rounder in 2018 and then again as a 38th rounder by the Astros in 2019. His association with the franchise continued, as he was signed as an undrafted free agent in June 2020 for $20,000 and has had an interesting season since.

Correa slashed .310/.368/.464 in his season with the minor leagues. And while not setting the league alight,  he was a definite performer for Asheville last season. He featured in the top 20 of batting average amongst minor leaguers with a minimum of 400 plate appearances.

Said Correa, “I could have signed with another team for other reasons, but I decided (to sign) with this team because they drafted me twice. I have shown the talent I have.”

And while JC Correa may well be an emergent prospect for the Houston Astros, he remains on the fringes of the main league squad; and he will need to step it up before he is called to deliver.

What would you do if you were him? Stay with your older brother? Or move on to set your legacy?
