The Chicago Cubs should be hopping come free agency. With them already having landed free agent Marcus Stroman just prior to the lockout, their pursuit of superstar shortstop Carlos Correa now seems to be heating up.

The lockout is at an end and teams can finally negotiate with the players, it seems that Stroman is offering his services to land Correa too and the Cubs look like they are set to get all the help they can get.

However, with the lockout lasting for almost 100 days, a lot can change. But the question that remains; has it?

Marcus Stroman tries to bring over Carlos Correa

Carlos Correa is undoubtedly the free agent target of the season and with several teams in his pursuit, Stroman will seemingly need a strong reason to mark his move to Wrigley Field.

And Marcus Stroman seems to think team camaraderie is the way to go. With the pitcher, even tweeting the player asking him to come over to the Chicago Cubs.

Carlos Correa is reportedly looking for a mega contract like Corey Seager and Marcus Semien, perhaps even to top them. This would mean a 10-year  $330 Million plus commitment on behalf of any team showing intent to sign him.

And with the Yankees and the LA Dodgers in the picture too, the superstar’s contract could truly rise to a meteoric price.

However, the Cubs remain a real prospect for the superstar shortstop; especially with his prospective teammate Marcus Stroman lobbying to get the player there.

The Cubs would realistically need to fill the gap they have at shortstop and Correa’s offensive and defensive numbers stack up well to make him a worthwhile signing. The only thing the Windy City would need to iron down is the duration of the contract. Chicago seems to be looking for a 7 year commitment and that is where the gap lies.

Needless to say however, Stroman’s hopes are not dimmed. He seems to be taking to Twitter with gusto in an attempt to get Correa over. But where do you think he will end up? Are the Yankees the only ones that can afford him; or are the Dodgers and Cubs in with a shout too?
