American rapper Mac Miller’s passing had quite an effect on his fans around the world. Miller may have worked as a musician and a rapper, but he was so much more. Perhaps his personality comes out best in an interview at his hometown Pittsburgh Pirates game. Traveling back to 2015, we see a time when Miller was going to be throwing the first pitch for a game at the PNC Park.

The cheerful Mac Miller can be seen enjoying his time at a home game sporting the “412” area code jersey. He even has “Home Town Hero” embossed on the back to show us just how connected he was to his roots. Mac Miller was releasing his 3rd album at the time and was in Pittsburgh to start his promotional tour for the release.

Mac Miller’s dream

It was during this interview that Mac Miller spoke about his dream. With his parents by his side and at the game that people from his home ground had turned up to watch the Pirates play, Miller revealed his vision. He said he wanted, “to open up a bar in Pittsburgh.”

It would be a place for Pirates fans to kick back and watch the game, perhaps; Where the jukebox would only house Mac Miller classics.

His album, titled GO:OD AM was slated to be released on September 20th, 2015. The interview, dated September 18th, talks about the album and how dearly he holds his home city and the people of Pittsburgh.

Describing his album, Miller spoke to the reporter, telling her the album was like a morning drive through Pittsburgh. “Its grey and foggy out and suddenly, it gets bright,” said the smiling Miller.

Miller is a ball of nervous energy through the video. His first pitch at PNC has even been described by the local report as a kind of a bucket list item for Miller.

He bleeds black and gold, the report says. And it shows. Miller comes on to say, “All I’m trying to do is represent the city.”

His object isn’t to be the coolest, it is to be someone, “Who works hard and loves the place that he’s from.”

A fan of the Pirates for sure. Miller is visibly excited as he comes off the mound after having thrown the first pitch; Almost like a little kid.

Miller passed away in 2018, aged 26. Gone too soon, perhaps, Miller will always be in our hearts and his music lives on even today.
