Juan Soto has been a revelation with the Washington Nationals. And recording a stellar 2021 only added to the already well-established ability of the young star. But now, if sources around the league are to be heard, he could well be the next record-setter.
Soto recently made news for rejecting a 13-year contract extension with the Nationals for a record $350 million, but several opinions around the league are saying that he may be worth even more. Eyeing that curious $500 million figure, New York Mets relief pitcher, Trevor May thinks Soto could well be worth that.

Trevor May, who pitches out of Citi Field, believes that Soto could well command that sort of price in free agency. With the star setting out various attributes that the young player enjoys, including plate discipline, power, and just sheer skill, it’s no surprise that May has respect for his league co-star. However, what really may set Soto apart is his age. Only 23 in the 2022 season, Soto will be lined up for free agency in his prime and could well command a price that breaks all previous records, including the coveted $500 million figure.
Juan Soto – A Half a Billion player?
Reportedly, Juan Soto turned down a 13-year contract extension from the Nationals worth $350 million earlier this week. And May thinks that the only reason he could’ve done that possibly could be because he is sure of a more lucrative contract in the offing. Said May, “Hearing him turn down 13/350 means that he probably has half a bill in mind.”

Soto enters arbitration for his salary every year subsequent to 2022. Reportedly, Soto stands to make $16 Million in 2022, with his salary for 2023 ballooning as high as $24 million and the 2024 figure to be as great as $30 million, before he hits free agency. This would have him aged 26 in his next free agency.
Signed on with super-agent Scott Boras, this certainly does not seem like an opportunity that will be missed. And it is not just the opportunity that Soto affords teams. He has backed it up with an outstanding record in the major leagues too.
