Amidst this free agency in MLB, every team is trying to strengthen their roster for the upcoming season. And at the same time, they are also trying to extend the contract of a few players. Notably, the New York Yankees star Aaron Judge falls in the extension category.

After the 2022 season, Judge will enter his free agency, and then it might be difficult for both the Yankees and Judge to further continue their relationship. Because considering Aaron Judge’s playing skills, the Yankees will have to compete with a few other teams for his signature.

Aaron Judge wants to extend his contract with the New York Yankees before opening day

In the past few years, Aaron Judge has arguably been the best player for the Yankees. However, his future at the Yankees is not certain, as he is yet to sign his contract extension. But now with the regular season starting from the next month, Judge wants to extend his contract before the opening day.

Judge believes that discussing his contract in the middle of the season will be a distraction for him. According to SI, the Yankees star also confirmed that if not before the season, then he will discuss his contract only after the season.

“I think if we’re able to talk and get something done in spring training before the season starts, that’d be ideal,” said Aaron Judge. “I don’t want contract talks or extensions or all that stuff to be a distraction throughout the year. If we’re able to agree to something here in spring before we head up to New York, that’s wonderful and I’d honored and blessed. If not, then we’ll talk after the season.”

While expressing his wish to continue at the Yankees, Judge said that there is no better place to play on this planet. And he has been vocal about his extension on multiple occasions.

“There’s no better place to play on this planet. I strongly believe that and I’ve been vocal about that,” Aaron Judge said. “I want to stay here in pinstripes. So if that happens, it happens, but if it comes to it that it doesn’t, like I said before, I’ll enjoy my memories here.”
