Ever since MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred announced the two new rules in MLB, it has raised lots of problems. And at the same time some options for the Major League Baseball teams. The owners’ lockout is still in motion and it is possible that the league games will be hampered. But after the recent media address by Manfred, baseball fans and players are less worried about the start of the regular season.
One of the two changed rules is that from this season onwards, teams in the National League will also play a universal DH. Earlier, a universal DH (designated hitter) used to play only in the American League teams. But from the 2022 season, it will not be the same. And after hearing this news, the most delighted person would be none other than former Cardinals’ player Albert Pujols. Notably, apart from being a first baseman, Pujols is also a good hitter of the ball.

There is no denying that after the new rules, the Cardinals will not consider their talisman Pujols. Notably, he has played a total of 11 years for them and considering the need for a universal DH, Pujols might be the best option for the Cardinals.

It’s not that the Cardinals do not have options for the designated hitter in their squad. In Paul Goldschmidt, Tyler O’Neill, and Nolan Arenado, they already have some excellent designated hitters. But in order to play them as DH, they will have to leave the field for defense. And that is something the Cardinals wouldn’t want because all three were Rawlings Gold Glove winners in the 2021 season.

The versatility of Pujols can also provide a balance to the Cardinals’ side. On any given day, he can be used as an option for Goldschmidt.
