Luke Voit is the latest on the list of departures from the New York Yankees. The team saw a fair number of exits this off-season amidst a 5 player trade with the Minnesota Twins; however, Voit remains the first starting roster member to leave the squad in the off-season. As such, he is expected to make an impact at his new home with the San Diego Padres. And as he makes his way there, Voit shares his thoughts about the move.

Luke Voit occupied first base with the New York Yankees and despite turning in a strong campaign in 2020 in the pandemic shortened year, he saw a drop off in 2021. After then suffering an injury that kept him out of action for a large part of the season, Voit was expected to make a return come 2022; however, he will now be seen sporting a Padres uniform come 2022. And the transition has been an easy one for him.

Luke Voit opens up about his switch to the San Diego Padres

Many expect that Yankee Stadium is one of the most favorable ballparks for hitters because of its short hitting limits. Voit however upended those notions with one fell statement. Said Voit, “It’s a huge stadium”. Adding that while the public perception may have bent a certain way, the true dimensions were fairly intimidating. “You get it down the lines, but then it’s 410 to left-center and about 393 to right-center,” he added.

Speaking about the switch, however, Voit sounded fairly excited to play for the Padres come 2022. Said Voit, “I was telling the guys; I was like it’s kinda nice we got a bunch of speed in the lineup, I’m used to big donkeys in New York.”

He added that it would’ve been tough for him to go into a team that was at a different point in the trajectory. Said Voit, “My whole time in the big leagues I’ve been on winning teams so it would’ve been pretty tough.”

And adapting to playing with the Padres has clearly been a breeze for the former Yankee. “But I also wanted a reset button so I mean it’s not the end of the world but to come to a place that’s pretty similar to how New York was; a team ready to win a World Series,” he added“And its a young team. Its fun. It’s vibrant. It kinda is like me and how my personality is.”

Sounding excited Voit was also excited about finally ridding himself of the no-shave rule. Said Voit, “I ain’t have to shave every two days no more.”
