Talking about Freddie Freeman, the star first baseman is an absolute gentleman of the game. And yet his former team, the Atlanta Braves, didn’t respect him at the time when he needed it most.
Recently, after signing with the Dodgers, Freeman opened up about how the Braves didn’t even try to keep him at their side.
Freddie Freeman makes it clear about the Atlanta Braves’ lack of interest in his renewal
Earlier this week, Los Angeles Dodgers announced the signing of star free agent Freddie Freeman. With this new deal, Freeman’s era at the Braves finally ended. And just like the Braves fans, Freeman might have liked to stay at his former team.
However, it was the Atlanta Braves’ lack of interest in their superstar, that forced him to move on to the Dodgers. According to ESPN, after the 2021 season, there were no talks between the Braves and Freeman.
From December to March, Freeman only heard from them twice, one before the lockout and one in the current free agency. Freeman said he got more calls from the Dodgers’ President in a couple of hours than he got in the entire lockout and free agency.
“The communication wasn’t all there in the offseason,” Freeman said. “I got two phone calls. … I got more from [Dodgers president] Andrew [Friedman] to my agent in a matter of a couple hours.
