As the 2022 Opening Day has finally arrived, pitcher Gerrit Cole shares his views about the Opening Day game as well as the entire MLB 2022 season for the New York Yankees. Gerrit Cole is associated with the New York Yankees in a 9-year, $324 M contract since December 18th, 2019. Cole played for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2013 to 2017, and then for the Houston Astros from 2018 to 2019, before joining the Yankees.

On April 7th, 2022, the New York Yankees held a press conference where the 31-year-old spoke about their vision for the new season.

From the perspective of the New York Yankees, Gerrit Cole thinks that the Yankees are capable of winning the World Series title this year.

“We have the guys in the room to do it… we have a much more versatile team that allows us to win different types of ballgames,” stated Cole while addressing the media.

While talking about the Opening Day 2022, Gerrit Cole said, “This is my third one here and I certainly don’t take it lightly… it’s something I hope to continue to do.”

It is quite clear that the New York Yankees are locked and loaded in terms of having a strong lineup. But the question arises when it comes to consistency. The Yankees played 19 games in the 2022 Spring Training. Out of the 19 games played, they won just eight games, lost 10, and tied one. Their last game of Spring Training took place on April 5th, 2022, as the Yankees faced the Detroit Tigers at the George M. Steinbrenner Field, Florida. The Tigers ended up winning the game 5-3.

On the other hand, it is not a secret that the Yankees are part of one of the toughest divisions in both the American League and the National League combined, the AL East Division.
