The New York Yankees are in build mode for 2022. With a disappointing 2021 campaign that culminated in a wild card loss to the Red Sox behind them, the Yankees will be looking to strengthen ahead of 2022. While the lockout makes sub-optimal, the Yankees will be doing their best.

In the meantime, the front office seems to be getting geared up in other ways. And with manager Aaron Boone recently interacting with the media, the fans were in for a surprise reaction.

Aaron Boone was appointed as manager for the New York Yankees in 2017 and has since seen some positive results in the Bronx. The overarching theme though has now for some time been the underperformance of one of the most successful franchises in baseball. And while fan reactions are a part and parcel of the sport, Boone had some stark reactions recently.

In a New York Post report, Aaron Boone responds quite strongly to fans that have taken to calling him too stat obsessed. Boone, seemingly upset with the take on his management style, responded in the media with his opinion as well.

Speaking about how Boone likes to use data in his style of management, he said, “You are missing the boat if you are not all-in on all of it and understanding the importance of all of it.

Aaron Boone has actually responded with some vitriol to all those that called him ‘data-applicator’. The complaints, reportedly, have long been that Boone seems to take calls based solely on data and without a feel for the game. But Boone came out swinging.

He declared that he was upset with the media for the narratives it was pushing with him being in charge; mentioning that even though they may have a sliver of truth to start out, “but in the end are kind of bulls–t.

Aaron Boone: A Baseball guy

Boone went on to say that he was just as much a baseball man as anyone else. Said Boone, “I have been in this game all my life, bro. I am as baseball through-and-through as anyone.”

The game has grown in recent times, and maybe a reinvention in thinking is exactly what it needs. Boone added, “Just because I have been open-minded and grown in the game doesn’t mean I am any more old-school or new-school than I have ever been.”

Showcasing his human side for a bit, Boone seemed to open up. Said Boone, “I am human so I feel everything to some level, but I am also pretty good at dealing with it and just being consumed with today and tomorrow as opposed to always looking back.

The Yankees will be clamoring for silverware soon. However, with little post-season success to his name still, do you think Boone’s tactics are right?
