The New York Yankees have had a few years under the radar. Despite making it to the postseason a fair few times, it seems as though they have not made enough of the opportunities in the playoffs as their trophy tally remains unchanged.
And coming off a disappointing wild card game loss to the Boston Red Sox in 2021, the Yankees will be eager to prove their mettle in 2022. Hence, center fielder Aaron Hicks seems to have just that mentality.

In a recent interview on the R2C2 podcast, Hicks spoke about the one-line mental note that the Yankees are looking to develop in 2o22. Succinctly said, the Yankees are aiming to go back to what they were: To have teams fear when the Yankees come to visit. Said Aaron Hicks, “I think our phrase for this year is ‘Have some F*** You!'”
Aaron Hicks speaks out on New York Yankees’ mentality for 2022
The centerfielder seemed to be quite open about making the Yankees a feared presence again. Excusing the explicative, the Yankees seem to be lacking in some aspect and Hicks believes it might be the gumption. Said Hicks, ” ‘Cause obviously that’s something that we’re missing and I’m definitely ready to do that.”
Hicks moved into the Yankee stadium in 2017 from the Minnesota Twins and hasn’t seen the glory days with them yet. Despite making a few post-season runs, the Yankees are yet to deliver on a pennant since 2009. And speaking of the past glory, Hicks harkened to Yankees of yore, the ones that made teams afraid before they ever set foot on the diamond.

“I think we need to make teams afraid of us. I think we need to have that like ‘Damn the f****** Yankees are coming in town,'” said Hicks. “We need to have that to where every place we walk into they’re afraid of playing us,” he added.
Adding that this season, it had to be challenging for teams to play the Yankees; or at least so the mentality must be. “When we go in there, we don’t need to just beat them, we need to beat the dogs*** out of them,” said Hicks, “We need to got there and just beat them to the point that where they show the next day like they whopped; and they aren’t trying to play that game.”

Hicks certainly seems to be bullish about the Yankees this year and with good reason. The Yankees are a baseball institution and expect to win every year they compete. Hicks, too, was aware of this. Said Hicks, “Every year you go you gotta win a championship, especially if you’re a Yankee player.”
