The MLB lockout curtailed the 2022 offseason. Having commenced on December 2nd, we have all been denied valuable off-season action through most of December and January. And with no signs of the issues being resolved, it looks unlikely to resume too. But there may be some light at the end of the Twitter tunnel. With no substantiation in moves for any teams, Twitter has self confirmed several rumors. The latest in the list? Freddie Freeman to the New York Yankees.
With the Atlanta Braves star as a free agent this off-season and the Yankees looking to bulk their roster with superstar talent, we may yet have a signing.

Freeman was the National League MVP in 2020. He added to the tally when he led the Atlanta Braves to a World Series in 2021. And yet, despite several attempts, failed to sign the dotted line when it came to an extension with the Braves. So does it seem like the 1st base at Truist Park will be without Freeman come 2022? Could be.

And while the exit would be a story in itself, where Freeman heads next could potentially create a roster to win it all. Even more so if he takes his talents to an already well serviced side. Could the Bronx be beckoning?
Potentially world beating?
Fans across Twitter took to the platform to react to the potential of such a move. MLB insider John Heyman tweeted that the Yankees were possibly interested; and the rumors certainly seem to have spiked. And with it, the traction it managed to generate online.
The Yankees are expected to take a run at Freddie Freeman, who they love. Though 1B isn’t their real need, they’d love to fit one of the game’s best lefty hitters into their lineup. With the Braves not quickly wrapping up their star, all are options are on the table for Freeman.

But the move left some fans quite perplexed. Why would the Yankees go for a first baseman? Especially when Luke Voit is expected back this season and Correa is available at shortstop. Add to it the fact that Correa is expected to cost a significant amount to sign. With expectation set at a $300 million dollar contract, signing both is not going to be easy.
The news about the Yankees making a run at Freddie Freeman just doesn’t make sense to me

Freddie Freeman's already 32, he's obviously a fantastic player but idk if signing a 32 year old 1B to a 6 year deal is in the Yankees best interest rn

Others still spoke about how this could potentially affect the Correa deal if that was ever to come to pass. Keeping in mind that the Yankees have also been linked to Matt Olson of the Oakland As at 1st base to secure that spot. Some Twitter users dug quite deep into the analysis.
I don’t think Freddie Freeman will be the next Yankees’ first baseman, but I think they’ll trade for Matt Olson or sign either Freeman or Anthony Rizzo.
Just listen to all the raving reports on Yankees’ shortstop prospects. They could go after a 1B and go easy at SS.

we arent getting freeman but all this means is theyre willing to pay 200 million for him so just add an extra 150 million and correa is a yankee https://t.co/ufUqoJYePq

Pulling up some serious Moneyball scenarios, one user even factored Super Agent Scott Boras into his theories.
Think the Braves were bluffing on trading for Olson to lower Freeman’s demands. Think the Yankees are bluffing on Freeman to make the Braves worried and stay away from Olson. Heyman works for Boras, trying to raise demand for Freeman https://t.co/2NyF6RVVRB

Some had a deeper dive. What if it was all just leverage?
Will continue to believe these rumors are Freeman's camp using the Yankees as leverage against the Braves until I see him in pinstripes. https://t.co/UT3IQHd9kl

Others were still sure that this was all just a ruse.
Fairly certain Heyman has a Freeman/Yankees tweet scheduled weekly at this point.

Freddie Freeman to the New York Yankees?
Fans of the Bronx Bombers were still bullish about featuring Freeman on their roster. Some going even as far as commenting on how excited they would be were he to take his talents to the East Coast.

When I went to a couple of the Dodgers & Braves playoff games I couldn’t believe how well-rounded Freddie Freeman looked at the plate. Pulling monster bombs, shooting the gap the other way, working the counts, situational hitting in big spots. Everything the Yankees lineup needs! pic.twitter.com/g7BgRtVQSv

With some even fairly certain that the finances would work out.
Yankees have enough money to sign Freeman, Correa, AND extend Aaron Judge. https://t.co/6aATFKgHQX

The fun ones on Twitter
The microblogging site always manages to throw up some gems for the day. Even as the rumors firmed up for the Freeman trade, Twitter was up for it with its reactions. Freddie Freeman seems to have dominated the Twitter dialogue.
If the Yankees get Freddie Freeman, this app will be chaotic
