The MLB lockout curtailed the 2022 offseason. Having commenced on December 2nd, we have all been denied valuable off-season action through most of December and January. And with no signs of the issues being resolved, it looks unlikely to resume too. But there may be some light at the end of the Twitter tunnel. With no substantiation in moves for any teams, Twitter has self confirmed several rumors. The latest in the list? Freddie Freeman to the New York Yankees.

With the Atlanta Braves star as a free agent this off-season and the Yankees looking to bulk their roster with superstar talent, we may yet have a signing.

Freeman was the National League MVP in 2020. He added to the tally when he led the Atlanta Braves to a World Series in 2021. And yet, despite several attempts, failed to sign the dotted line when it came to an extension with the Braves. So does it seem like the 1st base at Truist Park will be without Freeman come 2022? Could be.

Potentially world beating?

Fans across Twitter took to the platform to react to the potential of such a move. MLB insider John Heyman tweeted that the Yankees were possibly interested; and the rumors certainly seem to have spiked. And with it, the traction it managed to generate online.

But the move left some fans quite perplexed. Why would the Yankees go for a first baseman? Especially when Luke Voit is expected back this season and Correa is available at shortstop. Add to it the fact that Correa is expected to cost a significant amount to sign. With expectation set at a $300 million dollar contract, signing both is not going to be easy.

Freddie Freeman to the New York Yankees?

Fans of the Bronx Bombers were still bullish about featuring Freeman on their roster. Some going even as far as commenting on how excited they would be were he to take his talents to the East Coast.

With some even fairly certain that the finances would work out.

And some Yankees fans, just can’t seem to get past the Correa fever.

The fun ones on Twitter

The microblogging site always manages to throw up some gems for the day. Even as the rumors firmed up for the Freeman trade, Twitter was up for it with its reactions. Freddie Freeman seems to have dominated the Twitter dialogue.

We certainly hope that Freeman starts next season wherever he feels most comfortable. In the meantime, thank god for Twitter.
