Freddie Freeman was one of the top free-agent signings of the 2022 off-season, and he is showing the league just why that was. Maintaining his performance for the LA Dodgers consistently, Freeman has the fanbase in a thrall. A lot of credit goes to how accepting and excited they have been about the first baseman. The LA Dodgers’ fanbase is often called one of the best for athletes to enjoy support from. And now that narrative has one more proponent, Freddie Freeman, their newest signing.

Freddie Freeman has only joined the Dodger roster in the current season, but the California native is already a fan favorite. Having plied his trade with the Atlanta Braves for almost more than a decade, the support from the LA Dodgers fanbase still surprised him. With the superstar carrying his famous ‘Freddie’ chant with him wherever he goes, the stands sang his name as the Dodgers took on the San Diego Padres.

Freddie Freeman – already a fan favorite?

Freddie Freeman is used to having the crowd at his back. But usually, he is at Truist Park when he hears the famous ‘Freddie’ chant. However, Sunday saw the chant not only at a new venue but by a completely different fan base.

In a media interaction after the game, the reporter asked Freeman if he had heard the ‘Freddie’ chant in a visiting ballpark before. In reply, Freeman grinned from cheek to cheek before answering. Said Freeman, “Uhhhmmm… No.”

Although Freeman appeared pleasantly surprised, aware of how great the fanbase is from his time in MLB, he knew of Dodgers fans. “When you’re still in California, the Dodgers travel really well, I know that,” he added.

And as an experienced gun in MLB, Freeman relied on his experience with the Braves. Said Freeman, “There have been multiple times I was with the Braves and they would sell out an entire section and they’d be there.”

Freeman responded to the chants as well, snagging some home runs against the Padres. Talking about the ‘Freddie’ chants from the stand, Freeman couldn’t just let those go without responding in kind. Clobbering a two-run home run at the top of the third, Freeman waved to the crowd as he rounded home plate. Said Freeman, “Luckily [I] heard it again in the second at-bat and I could come through.”
