After a largely uneventful 2022 off-season, fans of the New York Yankees may finally see some light at the end of a tunnel. Despite being in a discussion about locking down several free agents, including superstar Carlos Correa and Freddie Freeman; the Yankees have been unable to land their targets. However, their announcer for the season, Carlos Beltran, may have let slip a crucial confirmation that will put some Yankees fans at ease. Aaron Judge may be set to sign an extension.

Aaron Judge made his way onto the New York Yankees as a rookie in 2016 and has done nothing but impress since. Judge may have been unlucky with injury but has been a pillar in the Yankees offense.

Moreover, his contract running out was a thing of concern for most fans as they would have preferred to lose him in free agency come 2023.

Has Aaron Judge signed an extension?

Aaron Judge had at various points clarified that he would need a deal to be agreed upon before Opening Day; if there was ever an offer incoming. And he seems to have gotten his wish. With the Yankees’ new announcer Carlos Beltran announcing a Spring Training game with the Philadelphia Phillies, he might have let a few details slip.

Commentating on the game at the top of the third innings, Judge walked out to the home plate, and that is when Beltran’s love for his former team may have let down his commentating skills. Said Beltran, “I’m just glad to see him be able to create this new contract with the New York Yankees, being able to extend his stay here in New York.

Beltran also added that this would hold the Yankees in good stead. Judge is a leader in the clubhouse and is one of the top hitters in the Bronx currently, and signing him onto an extension is surely a statement. Though the official announcement is yet to come from either party in the transaction, it appears as if this report is still unconfirmed.

Beltran backtracks

Beltran made sure to correct his report, too. Coming back to commentate at the bottom of the 4th, Beltran clarified his statement on air. He stated that he “hoped” that Aaron Judge stayed on for an extension with the New York Yankees.

Judge would surely be one of the top retentions in the league if he agreed to an extension; and with good reason. Said Beltran, “I think Aaron Judge is of great value to this organization. I think he is a leader in the clubhouse. He has been in this organization since he was a young player.”

Perhaps echoing the sentiments of a large part of the New York Yankees’ fanbase, Beltran punctuated his statement with a solid sign-off. Said Beltran, “So I hope that the organization and him are capable of agreeing to an extension for the future.”
