Christmas arrived early for the New York Yankees’ left fielder, Joey Gallo, as he scored his first home run of the MLB 2022 season on Tuesday. The 28-year-old scored the homer against the Baltimore Orioles on April 26th, 2022, at the Yankee Stadium in New York.
Gallo started his journey with the Yankees in July 2021, when the Texas Rangers traded him to the Yankees. Later, in March 2022, Gallo signed a contract with the Yankees in order to avoid arbitration.
New York Yankees give Joey Gallo the silent treatment
On Tuesday, in the 4th inning, Joey Gallo faced Orioles pitcher Jordan Lyles. As the Yankees were leading the game 3-0, Lyles pitched an 87mph change-up, and Gallo hit the ball into deep left-center. Later, in the post-match interview, Gallo was asked about the home run. He stated, “It’s hard work paying off. I think sometimes you get a little worried. You’re like, Man, why are these balls not going out? I’ve hit some balls really good this year and they’ve been caught at the wall or warning tracks. But I always know. Last year, I remember going through 15 or 20 games without an extra-base hit to open up in Texas. It’s a process. It’s a long season, so you understand that they’re going to come. You just have to keep working.”
