Notably, Correa has always favored a long-term deal with over $300 million contract, similar to Corey Seager’s 325 million deal. But given the circumstances, the former Astros star might not get his dream contract.
Earlier this year during the lockout, Correa hired superagent Scott Boras to get him the best possible deal. But now it seems like hiring Boras has backfired for Carlos Correa. Instead of a multi-year deal, he might sign just a 1-year contract.
Carlos Correa’s agent Scott Boras will make more money in a one-year deal compared to Correa’s multi-year contract
When Correa hired Boras as his agent to represent, he wouldn’t have imagined the amount of damage it might do to his career. But looking at the current scenario of Major League Baseball, Correa is more likely to get only a short-term deal.
Earlier in free agency, teams like New York Yankees and the Chicago Cubs had Correa on their radar. And even now, the said teams along with the Houston Astros are in the race to sign Correa. But they are not ready to agree to a longer contract.

According to Buster Olney of ESPN, if Correa accepts the long-term offers that he got before the lockout. Instead of Scott Boras, his previous agency will get the majority of the commission. And that is something Correa’s current Scott Boras would not want. On the other hand, if Correa agrees to a short-term deal, Boras will benefit solely from the deal.
As agents have noted: Given the offers Carlos Correa got before the lockout, his previous agency would be in position to claim a majority of whatever he gets in a multi-year deal. If Correa signs for for one year now, new agent Scott Boras gets all $ of a new deal next winter.
