Carlos Correa is undoubtedly leading headlines even despite the lockout. With the superstar shortstop a free agent this season, his next destination is a matter of near public discussion. However, with the growing discussions, so too does the speculation. And with the newest reports coming in, Correa might well be set to continue right where he is. Carlos Correa has put himself in a great position as a free agent. With a great showing in the 2021 season, both defensively and offensively, he has shown just how valuable he can be to a roster. And with several teams across the league planning to need a shortstop amid the ongoing lockout, the story of the 2022 off-season promises to have a few twists in it before it can resolve itself. The signing of some mega contracts this year already certainly doesn’t ease the tension either.

Carlos Correa to stay a Houston Astro?

Podcaster Michael Schwab recently set out that the possibility of Correa re-signing with the Astros remains high. Especially given that Correa, too has, reportedly publicly stated that he would like to return to the Astros. “I still think there’s a possibility he does,” Schwab added.

In subsequent tweets, however, Schwab does set out the circumstances that would need to conspire for the move to go through. With the pairing of Correa with super-agent Scott Boras, the likelihood of Correa staying with the Astros has reportedly gone up manifold.

Despite the super-agent being known to get his clients the best deals, he is responsible for several contracts on the Houston Astros which could all well be contributing to Correa’s re-signing with the franchise. Especially if you consider the working relationship that Boras could share with the Houston front office.

Reportedly, Correa is looking for a 10+ year deal with the likes of Seager to secure an extension above $325 Million. However, Schwab seems to believe that Correa would likely be willing to take a shorter-term deal if it meant a higher yearly salary for him.

While most discussions right now remain nebulous, it is still an interesting hypothetical to consider. With the lockout only lengthening, teams will be getting jittery to have made their signings for 2022. But where do you think Correa will land for 2022? Will he stay at the Minute Main park or head to newer pastures in free agency?
