Minnesota Twins conducted a press conference as they officially welcomed Carlos Correa as the shortstop for their side. While addressing the media, Carlos Correa revealed the contract negotiations with the Houston Astros and how the Astros came to terms, especially after the lockout.

Carlos Correa is officially a shortstop for the Minnesota Twins from today! The Twins held a press conference on Wednesday, March 23rd, 2022, as they excitedly welcomed the 27-year-old onto their team. Correa wore the official jersey and the cap of the Minnesota Twins during the press conference as he signed a 3-year contract with them through 2024.
Notably, Correa will wear the #4 jersey for the Minnesota Twins. He was accompanied by Derek Falvey and Scott Boras. Derek Falvey is an Executive Officer of the Twins as well as the Chief Baseball Officer, whereas Scott Boras is Carlos’ agent.

Carlos Correa talks about the Houston Astros contract
As per ESPN’s baseball writer Marly Rivera, Carlos Correa said that he has “nothing but love” for the Houston Astros and for the city of Houston. He also expressed his gratitude towards the front office and the ownership of the Astros. But while talking about his contract negotiations with the Astros, Correa revealed that the Astros did not make him any offers after the 2021-22 Lockout. Thus, Correa entered the free agency for the MLB 2022 season.

Contract Details
Carlos Correa has signed a 3 year, $105.3 M contract, including opt-outs after each of the first two years with the Minnesota Twins. The opt-out deal can make Correa enter the market after the MLB 2022 season ends. Correa will earn an average annual salary of $35.1 M. This makes him the Highest-Paid Infielder in MLB history as he surpasses Anthony Rendon, who signed a deal with the Los Angeles Angels of $35 million annually in 2020.

Carlos Correa’s 7-year MLB stats include a .277 avg, 133 HR, 489 RBI, and a .837 OPS. Apart from that, Correa is a two-time all-star when he was playing for the Houston Astros. He also won the 2015 AL Rookie of the Year award when he made his MLB debut back in the MLB 2015 season for the Astros.

With today’s press conference with the Minnesota Twins, Carlos Correa has officially ended his 6-year journey with the Houston Astros. Now, he begins a new journey with the Twins. But he has given the Astros’ team and the management the due credit they deserve for assisting Correa to get to this level.
