With Seiya Suzuki’s signing on the horizon, the MLB could soon have a new Japanese star. And while several teams have fronted themselves as being in the running for his signature; there still remain serious questions about which franchise he will join. The decision on Suzuki’s future, though, can only be made after the lockout. But according to reports, the San Francisco Giants and the Seattle Mariners may emerge as serious competition.

The talent from across the Pacific was submitted to Major League Baseball’s posting system earlier this off season. Prior to the lockout, Suzuki had put himself up for Major League teams to sign him. However, no agreement was reached prior to the lockout. This means that Suzuki will service the remainder of his posting period after the end of the lockout. Baseball fans, ever enthusiastic, have not let this quell their theories though.

The Boston Globe, too, commented, stating that while Suzuki had not found his way to American shores yet, he was intending on making his way to the Major League. The Globe reported, “Seiya Suzuki has yet to meet in person with any major league teams. But the star Japanese outfielder is planning to be in the United States soon so he can select a team once the lockout ends.”

And Suzuki has no lack of people to help him out either. Former MLB player, Koji Uehara, now a television commentator in Japan, has advocated for the Red Sox. This, in addition to the Seattle Mariners and the San Francisco Giants already leading the pursuit.

Suzuki would be a great addition to any team looking to make a post season run, atleast according to his statistics. In his 9 season career in the Nippon Professional Baseball, Suzuki has amassed a .309/.402/.541 slash line to go with 189 home runs and 102 stolen bases. Most teams in the league would count themselves lucky to secure Suzuki’s services prior to the 2022 season; and Suzuki would be only too glad to attach himself to a brand as prestigious as Major League Baseball.
