Martinez has a stellar record in the Majors and the 8-time All Star managed to put together a game of games that night at the old Yankee Stadium. He only registered a single hit through the game in the second inning and managed to only get better from that point on in the game. His excellence from the mound was recognized in 2015 when he was inducted to the Hall of Fame.
Pedro Martinez and his 17 Strikeouts
Martinez was very tongue in cheek to troll the Bronx Bombers. He tweeted from his account a clip of his 17 strikeouts that fateful night in 1999 in the Bronx and just let the internet react.
Boy, remember the time I lit up the Yankees for 17 Strikeouts? 🔥 Fuego! pic.twitter.com/VhULu1sfCO

Tweeting his own highlight reel, Martinez wrote, “Remember the time I lit up the Yankees for 17 strikeouts?”
But that truly was a game to enjoy for Boston fans. In a 3-1 win over their rivals, the Red Sox really managed to make their pitching count. And Martinez even individually had a season to remember in 1999.
In a Cy Young Award winning season, Martinez set several records worthy of note along the way. A record of double digit strikeout games in 8 consecutive appearances from the mound, was the least of what Martinez did in that season. He had a seven game streak of 10 or more strikeouts in the early spring too.

But his performance at the old Yankee Stadium was undoubtedly his finest showing in his streak. He only got better as time went on for him. Martinez had no walks that night and struck out 17 batters that night. He only allowed a singular hit in the second inning of the game which was an unfortunate homerun.
