Legendary martial artist and action star Chuck Norris is no stranger to grave injuries. However, in a 1993 interview, Norris once revealed how he was seriously injured while shooting for the move ?Missing in Action.? The use of ‘squibs’ to portray a realistic effect of bullets, also played a vital role in the incident. Squibs are devices that have an explosive attached to them at one end, which bursts fake blood on contact.
The 1984 movie was set against the backdrop of the Vietnam war and was directed by Joseph Zito. During the interview on the Dick Cavett show, broadcasted on 14th May 1993, Norris talked about shooting in the Philippines. Norris disclosed how ignoring his instincts led to a tragic turn of events, and how he could continue shooting despite a broken nose.?

?I was doing a scene in this truck and they brought the squibs up by my face?, states Norris to Cavett. Narrating how the squibs, ?were awful close”, Norris talks about having a sinking feeling about the scene. However, he continued with the stunt, only wishing he hadn’t.
?Those things start exploding and start hitting me in the face?, Norris recalled.? Hitting him close to the eye, the squibs ended up making Norris bleed profusely. He continues, “I got cut up and took off a chunk of my nose.? Owing to his worsening condition, Norris was then immediately taken to the hospital.?
Later, the action artist related, ?During this segment?they had to put a plastic nose over..my real one so I could keep shooting.?? Not only this, but Norris also had to have surgery to recover from the horrific injury.
Another movie in which Norris did tricky stunts was ‘The Way of the Dragon’ in 1972. At that time, Norris’s struggles bore fruit when the climactic stunt scene achieved tremendous popularity. Earlier, the actor also related the lesser-known story behind his popular scene with Bruce Lee in the movie.

Further, Norris added how Lee managed to get the support of some officials by bribing them. This proved helpful and later, the team completed shooting this scene before officials told them to wind up the shoot.?
