No parent can bear the sight of their severely injured child. However, when the child is none other than the international action hero, Jackie Chan, injuries are bound to happen. Growing up with a strict father, mischievous Chan always managed to hide his injuries from his parents. However, when an accident rendered the adult Chan immobile on a film set, the star could only rely on his crew members to keep the dreadful sight away from his father.
In his autobiography, Jackie Chan gave a detailed account of one of his most severe injuries. While explaining the gravity of the situation, he mentioned how his father had to be walked out of the film set to prevent him from seeing the horrific scene.

In his autobiography, Never Grow Up, Jackie Chan opened up about the life-threatening injury he sustained on the sets of the film, Armour of God. A miscalculation on the stunt set left Jackie Chan with a swollen head and blood oozing out “from every orifice.” After breaking a branch while performing a stunt involving a tree, Chan fell to the ground and hit his head.
Coincidently, his father, who never really visited his workplace before, was present on the sets that day. To prevent him from getting shocked by seeing his son lying on the ground, unable to move, the film crew ushered him away from the scene. Recalling his condition in the book, Chan wrote, “I started to feel hot all over. The back of my head had been swelling since the fall. My colleagues noticed a large amount of blood spurting out of my ear—a real geyser—yet I had no visible injuries.”

Chan further added that looking at his condition, his crew was worried he was going to die. Panicked by the situation, they rushed him down the mountain to the nearest hospital at 9 in the morning.
The doctors explained the gravity of the situation
Upon arriving at the nearest hospital, Chan was immediately injected with the necessary medications. Though the star hates needles, he couldn’t do much to oppose them. On further examination, he was referred to a bigger hospital where he was told he needed immediate brain surgery.

Had the circumstances been any different, Jackie Chan would’ve waited for the best brain surgeon to fly in and operate on him. But that day he was running short of time. Ultimately, Chan was operated on in a local hospital in Yugoslavia by local surgeons. At first Chan and his crew were hesitant to let the doctors operate. They believed he’d collapse on the operating table. But eventually, everything worked out for the best.
