The countdown for the Beijing Winter Olympics has begun. Many of the athletes have already arrived at the venue as the Olympics will kick off on February 4th. One of the most-watched athletes will be the 2-time Olympic champion, Mikaela Shiffrin.
Shiffrin is the popular choice to win slalom skiing, although she will face some tough competition from her rivals. Shiffrin’s Olympic preparation also included recovering from Covid and being isolated.

In a recent interview, the athlete reveals how she spent her time in isolation. Mikaela revealed that she didn’t take a break even then and spent her time exercising in her tiny hotel room.
Mikaela Shiffrin did pull-ups even during Covid!
There were just five weeks left for the Olympics when US gold medal prospect, Mikaela Shiffrin, tested positive for Covid. This meant that she would have to go into full isolation until she recovered.
With a sore throat and cold, the athlete was isolated in a hotel in Austria, where she would have to remain until she tested negative. However, Shiffrin wasn’t just going to spend her time doing nothing. She was a pro-athlete and used to doing regular physical exercises. And Covid would not stop her from her training regime.
So, Shiffrin accumulated whatever equipment she could and started doing exercises. The video has gone viral where Shiffrin can be seen doing pull-ups on the bedpost!
“I had a couple of little pieces of equipment; I had a kettlebell and one weight plate and some exercise bands and I was trying to stay on top of it as much as possible,” revealed Shiffrin.
Although she accepts that might have a bit of an overkill, being able to do pull-ups has always been one of her dreams.
“I had a bed frame and I was able to do pull-ups on it which was maybe a little overkill but for whatever reason, pull-ups have been like a big um thing of mine.”
For two weeks, Shiffrin could not ski, and this was perhaps the biggest break she had ever taken. It really took a toll on her, being alone in the room, not being able to ski with the Olympics looming over her. But she never let it break her.
There’s no stopping for Shiffrin
Shiffrin came out of this long break from skiing. But there was no time to rest. She directly went ahead to participate in the 47th World Cup.
There she proved that she was still the very best and won the Gold Medal at the slalom event in Schladming, Austria. This made her the alpine skier with the most victories in sport’s history.
