Martial arts legend Jackie Chan?s life has not been a bed of roses. Sent to the China Drama Academy at an early age, Chan had to train the hard way and face painful personal battles as well. In 2001, the popular actor finally disclosed his struggles related to training in a shocking interview. He also expressed his reaction and attitude towards his struggles and strenuous training.?

Jackie Chan?s frank admissions about his training and struggles?
During an interview with the Free Library in 2001, Chan spoke about how he was sent to the China Drama Academy by his parents due to severe financial problems. “The first three days were fun, then I received my first beating,”?he recounted. Chan also talked about a terrible experience when a teacher beat him with thick wood and he couldn?t cry or shout.?

During another talk, Chan said that the objective of beating was to make the learners work harder. Further, the actor also described how he used to hit more than 400 punches and kicks without a break. He also spoke about how the academy had strict notions about sickness and how it wasn?t permitted.?

In another interview, the martial arts legend narrated his training routine.??We get up at five o clock in the morning. First is a run. Run without bouncing. Keeping it low. Run with two cups of water and if you drop the water, the teachers will rip you,?? Chan remarked. This helped Chan to develop discipline. The actor also described how while he disliked the teachers who beat him then, he understood their training now. This shows Chan’s change of perspective and growth as an individual.?

The popular actor also went on to describe his parents’ visits to the academy which he loved. However, the visits soon stopped when his parents had to shift to Australia for work. Reacting to his parents, Chan recounted,?“At first I was angry at being left by myself, but I got used to it.”?

In an interview, Jackie Chan said that for every movie, his endeavour was to do things differently. Giving an example, he expressed how he changed an action such as flipping a chair to a fast movement. He also spoke that he felt contentment when the movie communicated a good message. The famous actor also talked about how he added an element of comedy in his Kungfu films because he had a strong dislike for violence.
