Jackie Chan had a career spanning almost five decades which established him as the second highest-paid actor in the world. But surprisingly, just like the reel life, his real life too secured a fair amount of public attention. While logging every nitty-gritty of his life in his autobiography, Chan spilled many private incidents too.

In Never Grow Up (2015) the martial artist-turned-actor registered 1981, as one of the most important years of his life. It was the year when the actor secretly married the love of his life and soon became a father. Jackie Chan recounted the time of becoming a father

Jackie and Joan were not married when they found out about her pregnancy. But the actor readily decided to tie the knot right away. Taking guidance from his godfather Leonard Ho, Chan then sent his soon-to-be wife to California with his manager. And as he regretted later, “I was busy filming, so I couldn’t go with her…she was all by herself, with no one to take care of her.”

In fact, he was not there during her pregnancy, “I worked through her whole pregnancy and didn?t visit her in America once. I made it over there only when the baby was about to be born.” However, back in America, he waited beside Joan for prolonged hours. But as he put it, “I kept her company for many hours, but the baby was taking his time to come out.”

“Groggy from jet lag”, Chan went home to take a nap, but couldn’t help thinking about his unborn child. His head was crowded with ideas, from what should he name him, to wondering whether he was going to have a strong baby. However, with Jaycee’s birth, Chan found two new roles for himself; a father and a husband.

Chan, as a busy but responsible family man

As we know from his book, the Vanguard actor hardly had any time for his family. Eventually, his schedule made him busy and thus distanced Chan from his family. However, even though he couldn’t be present in his son’s upbringing, as a responsible father, Chan always used to take updates from Joan.

When he learned about Jaycee’s interest in basketball, the martial artist called his stunt team and arranged a proper basketball court for his son to play. In fact, he used to phone Joan and catch the trail of Jaycee’s emerging talent in the sport, which eventually made him happy.
