On March 16, 2021, eight Asian Americans were brutally shot in Atlanta. Shook by the tragedy, NBA star Stephen Curry rose to extend his support to the victims and the community. Besides, he reminded people of the wisdom shared by the martial arts legend.

The eight-time NBA All-Star found the right path to show his solidarity with the Asian-American community. Bruce Lee was a pioneer in bridging the gap between the East and West. Curry collaborated with the Bruce Lee Foundation and contributed his part to the victims and their families.

Stephen Curry fashioned custom-made sneakers for a noble cause

A two-time MVP, Curry joined hands with the Lee foundation and created a pair of sneakers with a picture of the martial arts legend and his family. It also featured Lee’s famous quote, “Under the heavens, there is only family.” He wore the custom-made vibrant yellow and black shoes during the game between his Golden State Warriors and the Atlanta Hawks.

The sneakers were then auctioned off, and Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta donated the proceeds. The two-time MVP expressed his gratitude to his “faithful” Asian-American fans who have loved and supported him in his glorious career.

“We represent them on the court and I feel the love no matter where I go,” he expressed his sincere love and sense of social responsibility. With a true sportsman spirit, he pointed out, “the shoes are a small way in which I stand with this community, honor and support the victims of this tragedy..”

Curry recalled the timeless teachings of Bruce Lee

The NBA icon reminded each one of us is “on a quest to fulfill our purpose.” And, encouraged to use one’s energy to help and uplift each other. Referring to the gruesome violence, he said, “Anything else is a waste of our existence.”

Curry appealed for change, stating, “..people still deal with unnecessary tragedy and are afraid for their lives. We have to do better.” The three-time NBA champion demonstrated with his kind and thoughtful effort that he is a champion both on and off the court.
