The stunt which almost killed Jackie Chan

The 1985 film “Police Story” is Chan’s one of the most iconic movies in the Hollywood industry. Although the movie was quite entertaining, the famous “lighting” scene was the most talked about part of the film.

Once, in an interview with IGN, Chan explained the story behind this scene and how he thought it was “the end” for him. The actor recalled his busy schedule and said, “I was sick. I get injection. I was day and night shooting. Daytime, I’m filming Heart of the Dragon. Nighttime I’m directing my own things.”

Hence, when the time came to execute the famous lighting stunt, an already weakened Chan was frightened. He confessed, “I’m scared. I’m really scared. I’m ordinary person, I’m not a Superman.” However, Chan was not someone who would give up so easily. So, when the time came to jump straight into the lit lighting from the top floor of a mall, Chan just went for it. The entire mall was quiet, and the only sound present was that of the cameras rolling. “I say, ‘I’m gonna die.’ Yeah, I just boom! I jump down. And I said, ‘Wow safe landing.'”

Although Chan landed safely, he was still running high from the instant energy mood he got from doing the risky stunt. The excited actor said, “I grab my stunt guy do this [fighting action]. Then he said, ‘Hold on big brother. I’m gonna die, don’t hit me anymore.'”
