International superstar Jackie Chan is among those actors who perform their stunts in their movies. The amount of times he has injured himself while shooting makes it look like the action-comedy star fears nothing. But even the bravest souls fear something. Chan being no different, strangely developed a fear after meeting his son after a long time.

Jackie Chan has a son named Jaycee Chan with his wife, Taiwanese actress Joan Lin. While his son was growing up, the actor often had to stay away from home because of his work commitments. Due to this, he was not able to see his son for long durations. On one such meeting, Chan developed a peculiar fear. He gave a detailed account of it in his autobiography.

In his book Never Grow Up, Jackie Chan reflected on the various phases of his life. Going by the name of the book, one can guess the philosophy Chan lived by. Growing old is exactly what Jackie Chan feared. Chan prefers to live his life as he did in his youth. However, when he met his son in America after a long time, he was hit with the realization that living like he is young won’t stop him from growing old.

“‘Wow, you’re so tall!’ It had been a while since I’d last seen him, and he’d suddenly shot up. Every time since then, I’ve had a strange fear whenever I see him again, and it feels a bit unreal. So I have a son, and he’s already this old. When he’s not with me, I’m relaxed to be all by myself, and I feel very young. But then I see him, and I become an old dad again,” the action-comedy actor wrote in his book.

Chan further added that he often thinks about the time when his son would marry and have kids of his own. Jackie Chan is horrified by the thought of becoming a grandfather one day. This fear of old age and death reached a point where Chan used to have nightmares about it.

Overthinking led to nightmares

After meeting his son, Jackie Chan constantly thought about aging and death. These thoughts gradually took over his unconscious mind as well. Further, in his autobiography, Jackie Chan revealed he used to have nightmares about his death and of being buried underground. He imagined himself lying underground and getting eaten by the bugs. This led him to choose cremation over burials.

Ultimately, to get over such thoughts, the martial artist resorted to exercising. Jackie Chan used to get out of his bed and work out until those thoughts were gone. Growing old is inevitable, and Chan eventually came to terms with it. The living legend has decided to make the best use of the time he has now.
