Chuck Norris has been the subject of a series of Internet memes, highlighting his tough-guy persona. One such meme was based on a real incident on the sets of the TV series ‘Walker, Texas, and Ranger’. The legendary martial-artist-cum-action-movie-star was on the receiving end of a ghastly injury when a venomous animal penetrated its fangs under his skin. Norris kept his composure, showing his true toughness under duress.

Chuck Norris starred in a show called ‘Walker, Texas, and Cordell’ that ran from 1993-2001. He played the titular Texas ranger ‘Cordell Walker’, who kicks bad guys. During the shooting of an episode, Norris suffered from an incident of a rattlesnake bite, that threw everybody into a frenzy. Well except Norris.

While that bizarre claim isn’t true and neither are Norris’ superpowers, the fact that Norris kept his calm during the incredibly scary encounter, is far braver than any ordinary person.

As per Heroes & Icons, Norris once recalled, “Blood went flying everywhere. My director takes off running”, where everyone on the sets was just shocked by the sudden attack by the rattlesnake.

The rattlesnake’s presence on their set was a requirement for a scene in the episode, as per the script. Cordell Walker aka Chuck Norris had a scene where he picked up a rattlesnake with his bare hands. Showing off his fearlessness, as the Texas ranger possessed, he had to hold the same and count every rattle in it before letting it go.

The first take was fine, and, and it went without any problem with the wild creature. However, it was the second time around that caused havoc.

Director’s requirement and Norris’s carefree nature allowed for the injury

The director was unsatisfied with the first take, as often directors are, and wanted to shoot the scene again. Norris, with his devil-may-care attitude, agreed without hesitation. While the shot went perfectly this time, the snake wasn’t too pleased to get in front of the camera again.

It sank its fangs into Norris’ arm and blood spewed out like a tiny fountain. In no time, everyone was running and scared for their life. But the one person who needed emergency medical attention was looking for help. Norris eventually went to an animal handler whose suggestion was to get the bite looked at.

Fortunately for Norris, it was a mild bite and no amount of venom was found in his bloodstream. Norris survived that close call, but his life is filled with such injuries and close encounters with danger.
