The 52nd edition of the annual marathon race, 2023 NYC Marathon has kick started with terrific women runners. Active across all five boroughs, this race will mark the end of the World Marathon Majors. While 50,000 athletes are bringing their A-games this season, the American runners are gracing their home soil.

After a phenomenal day 1, Kenyan marathon legend Hellen Obiri stands with the well-deserved win. However, the US Team trails behind with three women with neck-to-neck finishes. The official X handle of the TCS New York City Marathon congratulates the trio.

Marathon legend stands strong

The winner of the 2023 TCS NYC Marathon is Kellyn Taylor. Clocking a stellar 2:29:48, she proved herself the best of the US lot. Furthermore, according to the X post, Molly Huddle secures a silver with 2:32:02 and Sydney Devore, a bronze with 2:36:01. The caption reads, “Your top-3 American women’s open-division finishers – congratulations!”

The 37-year-old aced running alongside firefighting, as her career cemented her as a long-distance track and field athlete. Moreover, she’s also a foster mom. In her early years, Taylor was a 1600m senior champion at Sussex Hamilton High School. Later on, she established herself as the 5000m distance running specialist with the 10th finish at the outdoor NCAA Championships.

Taylor’s track comeback had lots of postpartum struggles, but she kept her will alive. As a result, new moms Huddle and Taylor made a track entry.

The 37-year-old’s strong comeback

Welcoming Keagan in December 2022 was the fourth addition to her family. In a span of 13 months, the couple adopted a two-year-daughter and five-year-old son, in addition to their 13-year-old elder daughter. But keeping aside the postpartum setbacks, the new mom focussed on the upcoming US Olympic Trials.

The two-time Olympian further added, “This is supposed to be a building block toward the workload that you need for the Trials—I’m going to have to try and inch my way back a little closer to what I’d ideally do for a marathon buildup.” Dropping out at the 21-mile mark at the 2020 Trials in Atlanta gave a big blow to the athletic mom.

Though she wanted to make a comeback at the October 8 Chicago Marathon, she couldn’t go for the Chicago timing. But her win in New York just opened a new door which also leads to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
