Kenyan long-distance runner Kelvin Kiptum breaking the world record for a marathon was one of the biggest news coming out of the Chicago Marathon. It was an eventful day of brilliance and excitement as he ran across the finish line in a mere two hours. From the athletes with long rides to the first-time marathoners with their comfortable pace, the event was a success.

Along the sidelines of a crowded race, there was this soft whispering ball of fur asking for attention to be saved from all the commotion. A hero was found in Boston resident Sarah Bohan who spotted the seven-week-old kitten and rescued it. The kitten was taken in for a medical check up. The rescued “Marathon Kitten” received the clean bill of health, looking forward to a home.

Newfound “purrfect” home for the marathon kitten

Dr. Emily Yacker, the PAWS Chicago medical director, gave the clear signal informing that the kitten has passed latest comprehensive medical exams and have been given all the preventive medical care needed which included microchip, vaccines, and flea and tick treatments. And now the kitten is ready to go to a new home.

The 1 lb. 12 oz. kitten have found a “purrfect” home with Maldonado family, the whole family accepted the little fur ball as their own when Bohan was walking down the marathon route, they extended their warm hugs to the new part of their family. Caspar is now an important part of Maldonado family. Bohan did not just part ways with Caspar and made sure the family was really a right fit for Caspar or not.

Bohan spotted Caspar at Mile 21 and then was joined by a fellow runner Gia Nigro to find a suitable and willing family for the kitten. At 22nd Mile they found Andrea Maldonado and her family wo decided to take care of the little kitten. Bohan was not ready to let go, talking exclusively to People magazine she said “I was committed to making sure that this little baby would be okay, and I wasn’t just going to give it to anyone.”

Andrea and her family adopted Caspar in a heartbeat, talking to people magazine she said, “We were on the sidelines having fun and all of a sudden this girl came up to me with a kitten. We love pets – I have two cats and a dog already – so I said, ‘OK, what’s one more?’ ”
