As per an interview on Youtube posted by the Spittin Chiclets, The Great One once spilled the beans on his team’s rather wacky ritual. He describes it as being mandatory to bring a partner to the team’s Christmas celebrations. He nostalgically said, “He had one philosophy, the team Christmas party, you always had to bring a date.”

Additionally, the Canadian athlete mentioned that the party host, Glenn, remarked that he wasn’t fond of the idea of being surrounded by only guys on Christmas. Hence, to comply with it, the players hilariously brought their mothers to the party.

Implying that, Gretzky said, “All the guys would fly their mothers in because they’re all like 19, 20. Betty Coffee would be there, Phyllis Gretzky, Jesse Lowe, but they said they’d loved it.” Moreover, Gretzky emphasized the fact that all the team members were very young at that time and it was a special memory for him.

In an interview with GQ Sports, Wayne Gretzky and NHL superstar Connor McDavid engaged in a brief conversation in 2020, throwing light on several aspects of their sporty careers. In addition to that, the duo even shared their mutual respect for each other.
Recollecting a distinct moment, Gretzky explained his admiration for the then 16-year-old McDavid. Apparently, he called him up to congratulate him for his achievements and ended up feeling nostalgic about his own great hockey career. He recounted, “I remember thinking, ‘Wow, it seemed like yesterday I was 16 playing junior hockey”.
