Chicago Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks fans were in for a treat on February 25 as the two teams clashed on the ice. The game began at a blistering pace, with four goals in the first period. While the pace settled a bit in the second period, the game would turn out to be a back-and-forth affair between the two NHL teams. Neither of the teams could break the 3-3 deadlock in overtime, and the Blackhawks finally emerged as the victors, after a masterful performance from goaltender Petr Mrázek in the shootout.
However, the newest Blackhawks player, David Gust, proved his worth. His crucial opening goal gave his team the early lead. With many ‘firsts’ in Saturday’s game, the NHL world is excited about Gust’s future.

When he was 28, David Gust nearly quit ice hockey. After a respectable career at the American Hockey League, Gust thought getting an NHL contract wouldn’t be on the cards at his age. However, the Chicago Blackhawks came calling in 2022, and offered him a contract for their AHL affiliate team, Rockford IceHogs. Gust played the best season of his career at the IceHogs, scoring 24 goals in 51 games. He also got 26 assists and 50 points. Amidst rumors of the Patrick Kane trade, the Blackhawks offered Gust his coveted NHL contract.
