According to the Sports Illustrated’s The Great One Janet once revealed that Gretzky intensely pondered over the coaching opportunity in Phoenix. She said, “It wasn’t that he was antsy before [he started coaching], but he was unsettled.” Notably, Janet cheered him on to take up the job despite the impediments.
At that time, the Gretzky family resided in Los Angeles with five kids, all younger than 17. Hence, it would have been problematic to abruptly move to Phoenix. Nonetheless, The Great One’s wife was aware of his great talent. “He likes to throw things at me to see if they’ll stick,” she hinted.
Gretzky finally agreed to coach, with his wife’s encouragement. “Why not? It seems like a natural thing. Why not give back some of the knowledge you have?” Janet recounted. Additionally, she even confessed that she hadn’t seen her husband so glad post-retirement.

As per a US Weekly article, Janet wouldn’t let the NHL icon to idle around all day after his retirement from the game. Hence, she compelled him to work out and maintain his athletic routines to keep fit. “Janet makes me go to hot yoga,” the athlete confessed.
Responding to that, she suggested, “As you get to your 50s, you’ve got to stay healthy.” She even mentioned that she intends to make her husband look good in his jeans. Well, if that’s not the right way to inspire the legend.
