Pittsburgh Penguins’ captain, Sidney Crosby, slid 3 Stanley Cups under his belt through the years 2009, 2016, and 2017, leading the NHL team to eminence. Additionally, he is now giving tough competition to leading goal scorer, Alexander Ovechkin, with his record of 534 goals. Evidently, the ice-hockey world reveres the star athlete to a great extent.
Hence, his recent remark on the league’s playoff configuration spurred fans to rethink the game overall. Fans took to the comments section majorly in support of the athlete’s point of view. However, many took the opportunity to chip in their distinct ideas as well.

As per the social media update by Tim and Friends, the 35-year-old athlete’s playoff rumination was a strike to the NHL administration’s way of exhibiting the sport. The post read, “Sidney Crosby says he’d change the league to go with a 1-8 playoff format. Says it rewards teams for the regular season better.” Encouraged by the comment, fans reacted to it by adding their own.
Here are some of the reactions:
Sidney Crosby says the NHL should return to a 1v8, 2v7, 3v6, 4v5 playoff format.
Do you agree? 🤔

Yes, the current format is garbage. Boring and repetitive. Funnels good teams out too early.

I’d go further. 1 vs 16. It made for some great matchups abd surprises in the early 80s

Big stars are speaking up, first McDavid saying get rid of the shootout and go to only 3on3 OT
Now Crosby saying the playoff format should be 1-8
These are generational players, the NHL SHOULD LISTEN TO THEIR STAR PLAYERS

I hate the shootout, it just punishes the goalies. 3 on 3 is some crazy free for all hockey, fun to watch.

Agree. Current format has gotten stale

A million times yes. I'd love to see a Leafs Rangers first round series. Be a banger.
— Mat (@MathewHyland) February 3, 2023
It was fine before they decided to imitate the NFL & MLB’s playoff format. Proving once again that the NHL can’t do anything right.

Even though the league witnessed an overwhelming response from fans, there are certain aspects that would greatly enhance the essence of the sport. The game has been evolving since the 80s and it is only viable that it continues to do so. Nevertheless, this isn’t the first time the Penguins’ center is sparking debates in the hockey universe.
Fans were baffled by Alexander Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby’s picture together
In a recent tweet by NHL’s official handle, a visual of the two icons from an event grabbed the internet’s attention. On Friday night, the Washington Capital captain and Crosby joined in for a Breakaway challenge in Florida. Unsurprisingly, the duo aced it and posed for a legendary picture after the event. Furthermore, NHL seized the opportunity to add an old still of the duo besides the recent one. This, in turn, left the fans divided, debating over their hockey idols. But Sid is soft and has missed many games, while the gray haired Ovechkin hardly misses any.
