Talking to the Spittin Chiclets, the NHL legend once revealed a shocking pre-game encounter with his teammate, Lee Fogelin in their locker room. Furthermore, he added that Fogelin was the most respected and loved member of the team.
Wayne Gretzky’s locker room incident
According to an interview with the Spittin Chiclets on YouTube, the Canadian former athlete opened up about another esteemed NHL player, Lee Fogolin. The Chicago native was addressed as the “godfather of the organization.” Additionally, Gretzky hinted that Fogolin was admired and valued by the whole team to a great extent. “He was everything to our team,” he stated.

Consequently, the 61-year-old shared a memorable story during his playing days. He narrated that once Fogolin was sitting opposite to him in the locker room and seemed troubled. After enquiring about it, the latter revealed that he had a dental health concern. Gretzky revealed, “He’s holding his jaw and I go, Foggy you all right, he goes oh I got an abscessed tooth.”
Gretzky suggested he consult the dentist, however, Fogolin didn’t plan on missing the game. He detailed, “He took a coat hanger, straightened it out and he took it and put it up into the tooth and knocked the cap and the filling out and all the blood came gushing down all over his shirt.” Moments later, Fogolin admitted that he felt better. Nevertheless, Gretzky was the one who felt sick after witnessing the frightful incident. Moreover, the legendary athlete did have a weak point for such scenarios.
Wayne Gretzky’s fear of failure
The Great One once revealed that he was afraid of failure. He often gave in to his fear and acted accordingly. “I’ve always played in fear of failure. When I was 9, I was afraid of not making the teams I tried out for, of not being good enough to do what was expected,” he disclosed in the interview.

Additionally, Gretzky stated that this was something he experienced since his childhood. He was inherently fearful of any kind of failure, not just limited to sports. “I always hurried home to do my homework, because I was afraid of not succeeding. It carried over to the NHL.” he added.
