Major League Baseball (MLB) team Houston Astros have decided to change the name of their Minor League Baseball team Sugar Land Skeeters. Notably, in April 2021, the Astros acquired Sugar Land Skeeters, and the acquisition was officially approved by the Sugar Land Council. As per the acquisition, the Astros and the City of Sugar Land partnered on a lease extension which will keep the Skeeters at Constellation field through at least the 2045 season.
As per Sugar Land Skeeters’ official website, the Minor League Baseball team will unveil its new name, logo, mascot, and uniforms for its Triple-A team later this month on January 29th. The Astros will host a launch party at Constellation Field from 4 p.m.to 7 p.m. in Sugar Land to reveal the new name, which will also include the New brand reveal, player autographs, live music, fireworks, chalk talk, and more.

The new name of Sugar Land Skeeters
According to Mark Berman of Fox 26, the Astros will rename the Sugar Land Skeeters to the Sugar Land Space Cowboys. Berman reported this after confirming with the MLB sources.

After being acquired by the Astros, the Skeeters played their first season as the Astro’s affiliate in 2021. Sugar Land Skeeters were an independent team from their establishment in 2012 to 2020.

The Sugar Land Triple-A team will kick off their 2022 season on April 5th against the Sacramento River Cats, and home opener on April 12 against the Round Rock Express. From their inception in 2012, the Skeeters have won the Atlantic League titles three times in 2016, 2018, and 2020.

The Astros owner Jim Crane wanted to change the name to a space theme. Notably, Houston Astros also has a space-related term in its name ‘Astros’. And as per Mark Berman, the new name of the team will be Sugar Land Space Cowboys.
