Bob Baffert’s horse racing glory as a trainer has come in full devotion in the Breeder’s Cup occasions. The phantasmagoria of the 70-year-old reaches the point where the captivation comes with his natural appearance in the fence line, mumbling motivation. The horse racing legend himself recounted, “A horse is the best distraction if you are down, if you are depressed,” for his motivation. But the Hall of Famer horse racing trainer has been recently practicing an outlier that may question the horse racing culture.
In this year’s Breeders’ Cup edition, Bob Baffert betted for the Arabian Knight, just 3-year-old. Now, when the time came to taste the race track of Los Alamitos, Bob couldn’t take his eyes off of a 2-year-old colt that didn’t disappoint his trainer.

For a trainer like Bob Baffert, December 16, Saturday might have been another day in the horse racing. However, the Los Alamitos Futurity contention day sounded different for both Kyle Frey and the colt, Wynstock. Kyle Frey’s outings in horse racing didn’t suit him most in the last two years. Los Alamitos was his last chance this season to elevate himself. So when the jockey nailed the final ride over Wynstock, the TVG perfectly narrated the ultimate scenario. The caption recited, “#2 WYNSTOCK ($29.40) and jockey @FreytheF comfortably led the field for 3/4 of a mile then battled #3 Stronghold down the stretch to win the G2 Los Alamitos Futurity…”

Trainer Bob Baffert also had his share of the fun in the victory. His trained 2-year-old equine found a perfect platform to earn the title since the owner of Los Alamitos, Dr. Edward Allred, is Wynstock’s owner as well. After the race, Baffert cheered, “I’m so excited. I’m just so happy (for Dr. Allred). He and I go way back. He bought this horse and trusted me.” However, for jockey Kyle, the companionship with Wynstock panned out a different story.

The Kyle Frey part of the story
With the win on Saturday, this was Bob Baffert’s eighth title win in the Los Alamitos Futurity (G2) in the last ten-year duration. However, the colt was never in the mood to suit Bob Baffert’s horse-racing prowess. Wynstock faced 13-1 odds and a perfect opposite of Stronghold, the runner-up. But it was Kyle Frey who changed the outcome of Wynstock. Even Bob Baffert agreed to the majestic companion of the colt and jockey as he added, “I told Kyle I’d leave him on this horse because they get along great together.”

However, Coach Prime, another Bob Baffert-trained young colt, took up the third position, just holding behind the Stronghold. But that couldn’t help the horse racing trainer to send his running colts to the next division. Churchill Downs Inc. already banned him from participating in the races of 2024.
